Having lived just outside Los Angeles for the past three years now, it's unfortunate it took so long for me to see a show at the iconic Greek Theatre. What I'm not disappointed about is the fact that my first show there was Ben Howard. Not only that, but the artist had opening support from one of my current favorite's, Daughter.
Unlike most nights in Southern California, it was a beautiful, fall evening. Surrounded by an eager and eclectic crowd, the colosseum-style venue began to roar with excitement as Daughter entered the stage. This female driven band kept a constant music sound of what some might call "vibezy". The crowd responded beautifully, singing along to the lyrical melodies - hands high and the band in mind.
WE ARE THE RECKLESS
WE ARE THE WILD YOUTH
CHANGING VISIONS OF OUR FUTURES
ONE DAY WE'LL REVEAL THE TRUTH
On his four stop U.S. tour, the British singer-song writer gave an incredibly intimate and delicate performance. Playing tracks from both his most recent album and 2011 debut, everyone in the audience had a track they could relate too. With minimal talking and stage antics, Ben gave the crowd what they came for, an outstanding musical performance. As the show wrapped up, the crowd immediately encouraged an encore. After cheering for what seemed like a solid ten minutes, the band returned to the stage to finish off the night with one last gig. It was an incredible finish to what was an extraordinary evening.
